Function: alpha chain of inhibin Structure: - member of superfamily of proteins that includes TGF-beta, mullerian inhibitory factor, & activins Compartment: secreted Expression: - ovary - granulosa cells - testis - Sertoli cells - brain - placenta - adrenal cortex - zona reticularis & inner zona fasciculata Pathology: - found in adrenocortical tumors - expressed in prostate epithelium of a) benign prostatic hyperplasia b) basal cell hyperplasia & in nonmalignant regions of high grade prostate cancer
