DNA-binding protein RFX5; regulatory factor X 5 (RFX5)

Function: - component of regulatory factor X (RFX) - activates transcription from class II MHC promoters - recognizes X-boxes - mediates cooperative binding between RFX & NF-Y - phosphorylated Structure: - the N-terminus is required for its association with RFXANK & RFXAP, for assembly of the RFX complex, & for binding of this the RFX complex to its X box target site in the MHC-II promoter - the C-terminus mediates cooperative binding between the RFX complex & NF-Y - belongs to the RFX family - contains 1 H-T-H motif winged-type DNA-binding domain Compartment: nucleus Expression: ubiquitous Pathology: - defects in RFX5 are a cause of bare lymphocyte syndrome-2
