phosphatase-2A B subunit
Function:
- several forms of phosphatase 2A B subunit encoded by separate genes are found complexed with a single catalytic (PP2A-cat) & A subunit.
- at least one form is specific for the nervous system [1]
- the PP2A-B subunit appears to suppress the activity of PP2A
- since ceramide activates heterotrimeric PP2A, but not PP2A-catalytic monomer or PP2A-cat/PP2A-A hetero-dimer, an allosteric site for binding of ceramide is included as a motif for the B subunit
- binding of ceramide is suggested to inhibit PP2A-B inhibition of PP2A
