- 13-item questionnaire
- age: 75-84 years (1 point) > 84 years 3 points
- self-rated health (fair to poor scores 1 point)
- activities of daily living (5 points)
- shopping, managing money, light housework, bathing, walking
- physical disability (up to 2 items or 2 points)
- stooping, crouching, or kneeling; walking one quarter of a mile; lifting 10 pounds; heavy housework; reaching above shoulder level; writing or grasping small objects
Clinical significance:
- composite outcome of one or more medical complications
- aspiration pneumonia, respiratory failure) or death
- discharge destination (home, nursing home, death)
- length of stay
- hospital charges
- Covariates:
- Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI)
- Injury Severity Score (ISS),
- sex
