visio-vestibular examination (VVE)

Indications: - diagnosis of concussion in young persons (children, adolecents) Procedure: - series of testing vision &vestibular function (including balance) - smooth pursuits - symptom provocation while eyes track a moving object in a single plane - saccadic eye movements - symptom provocation while eyes jump rapidly between two fixed objects - gaze stability, angular vestibulo-ocular reflex - symptom provocation with eyes fixed & head moving up & down or side to side - near point-of-convergence & monocular accommodation - how close an object can get before becoming double or blurry - balance - tandem gait, walking forward & backward in tandem, with eyes open & closed
