Unscheduled surgery due to urgency of patient's condition.
Management:
- proceed directly to surgery if emergency surgery indicated
- includes patients with multiple cardiovascular risk factors
- perioperative management for urgent surgery
- discontinue clopidogrel
- continue aspirin unless significant risk of bleeding
- primary care follow-up after emergency general surgery lowers 30 day hospital readmission (RR=0.33) [3]
