unilateral hyperlucent lung syndrome (Swyer-James or Macleod syndrome)
Etiology:
1) unknown
2) proposed etiologies
a) congenital atresia of the pulmonary artery
b) bronchiolitis acquired shortly after birth
Clinical manifestations:
1) unilateral hyperlucency & hyperinflation of the lung
- usually left lung
2) small pulmonary artery
3) bronchiectasis in 25%
4) most patients are asymptomatic
