UDP-glucose:glycoprotein glucosyltransferase 1; UGT1; hUGT1; UDP-Glc:glycoprotein glucosyltransferase; UDP-glucose ceramide glucosyltransferase-like 1 (UGGT1, GT, UGCGL1, UGGT, UGT1, UGTR)

Function: 1) recognizes glycoproteins with minor folding defects 2) reglucosylates single N-glycans near the misfolded part of the protein, thus providing quality control for protein folding in the endoplasmic reticulum 3) reglucosylated proteins are recognized by calreticulin for recycling to the endoplasmic reticulum & refolding or degradation 4) functions as monomer or heterodimer with SEP15 5) N-terminal non-catalytic domain is assumed to mediate recognition of proteins with partial folding defects Cofactor: Ca+2 or Mn+2 Structure: - the N-terminal non-catalytic domain is assumed to mediate recognition of proteins with partial folding defects - belongs to the glycosyltransferase 8 family Compartment: - endoplasmic reticulum lumen - endoplasmic reticulum-Golgi intermediate compartment Expression: - expressed in pancreas, skeletal muscle, kidney, brain > lung, heart - induced by tunicamycin, A23187; 3-4 fold induction 10 hrs after treatment
