Function: - beta-1,3-N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase active in synthesizing a unique carbohydrate structure, GalNAc-beta-1-3GlcNAc, on N- & O-glycans - has no galactose nor galactosaminyltransferase activity toward any acceptor substrate Kinetic parameters: - KM=5.4 uM for UDP-GalNAc - KM=11 mM for GlcNAc-beta-Bn Structure: - belongs to the glycosyltransferase 31 family - N-glycosylated (probable) Compartment: Golgi membrane Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2 Expression: - expressed in all tissues examined - highest levels in testis, adipose tissue, skeletal muscle & ovary
