ubiquitin fusion degradation protein 1 homolog; UB fusion protein 1 (UFD1L)

Function: - component of ubiquitin-dependent proteolytic pathway that degrades ubiquitin fusion proteins - the ternary complex containing UFD1L, VCP & NPLOC4 binds ubiquitinated proteins & is necessary for the export of misfolded proteins from the ER to the cytoplasm, where they are degraded by the proteasome - the NPLOC4-UFD1L-VCP complex regulates spindle disassembly at the end of mitosis & is necessary for the formation of a closed nuclear envelope. - may be involved in the development of some ectoderm-derived structures - protein degradation; proteasomal ubiquitin-dependent pathway - heterodimer with NPLOC4; heterodimer binds VCP & inhibits Golgi membrane fusion Structure: belongs to the UFD1 family Compartment: - nucleus (putative) - cytoplasm Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2 Expression: - found in adult heart, skeletal muscle & pancreas, & in fetal liver & kidney
