ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase 11; deubiquitinating enzyme 11; ubiquitin thiolesterase 11; ubiquitin-specific-processing protease 11 (USP11, UHX1)

Function: - protease that can remove conjugated ubiquitin from target proteins & polyubiquitin chains - inhibits degradation of target proteins by the proteasome - plays a role in the regulation of pathways leading to NF-kappa-B activation - plays a role in the regulation of DNA repair after double-stranded DNA breaks - thiol-dependent hydrolysis of ester, thioester, amide, peptide & isopeptide bonds formed by the C-terminal Gly of ubiquitin - interacts with RANBP9/RANBPM. interacts with BRCA2, CHUK/IKKA & NFKBIA - interacts with papilloma virus protein 16E7 Structure: - belongs to the peptidase C19 family - contains 1 DUSP domain Compartment: - nucleus, cytoplasm - predominantly nuclear - associates with chromatin Note: - it is uncertain whether Met-1 or Met-44 is the initiator
