T-box transcription factor TBX21; T-box protein 21; T-cell-specific T-box transcription factor T-bet; transcription factor TBLYM (TBX21, TBET, TBLYM)

Function: - facilitates conversion of T helper-2 (Th2) cells into T helper-1 (Th1) cells - controls expression of the TH1 cytokine, interferon-gamma - initiates TH1 lineage development from naive TH precursor cells both by activating TH1 genetic programs & by repressing the opposing TH2 programs Structure: - contains 1 T-box DNA-binding domain Compartment: nucleus Expression: T-cell specific Pathology: - T-bet is found in low concentrations in airways of humans with asthma [2]
