tubulin polymerization-promoting protein (TPPP, 25 kD brain-specific protein, p25-alpha, p24, p25)
Function:
1) promotes in vitro polymerization of tubulin into double- walled tubules & polymorphic aggregates or bundled stabilized microtubule blocks
2) may form dimers
3) binds tubulin, binding inhibited by GTP
4) interacts with GSK3, poor substrate for GSK3
5) phosphorylated by TPK2
Expression: widely expressed
Pathology:
- when overexpressed, inhibits mitotic spindle assembly & nuclear envelope breakdown, apparently without affecting other cellular event
