tubby protein homolog (TUB)

Function: - role in signal transduction from heterotrimeric G protein-coupled receptors - binds to membranes containing phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate - can bind DNA (in vitro) - may contribute to transcriptional regulation in the nucleus - may play role in hypothalamic regulation of body weight - may stimulate macrophages & phagocytosis of apoptotic retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells - interacts with GNAQ (putative) - interacts with TULP1 Structure: belongs to the TUB family Compartment: - cytoplasm (putative) - nucleus - secreted (putative) - plasma membrane, cytoplasmic side (putative) - binds phospholipid & is anchored to the plasma membrane through binding phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate - released upon activation of phospholipase C - translocates from the plasma membrane to the nucleus upon activation of guanine nucleotide-binding protein Gq-alpha - does not have a cleavable signal peptide & is secreted by a non-conventional pathway Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2
