triosephosphate isomerase (TIM, triose-phosphate isomerase) (TPI1 TPI)

Function: - catalyzes interconversion of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate & dihydroxyacetone phosphate - carbohydrate biosynthesis; gluconeogenesis - carbohydrate degradation; glycolysis - D-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate from glycerone phosphate, step 1/1 D-glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate glycerone-phosphate Structure: - homodimer - belongs to the triosephosphate isomerase family Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2 (Alternative splicing seems doubtful, since exon-intron junctions are not the consensus ones) Pathology: - defects in TPI1 are the cause of triosephosphate isomerase deficiency
