trimellitic anhydride
A component of certain plastics, paints & epoxy resins. Fumes or dust cause rhinitis & asthma if exposure is minor. Alveolar hemorrhage occurs with heavier exposure.
Pathology:
1) reacts spontaneously with respiratory proteins
2) resultant haptenized protein elicit IgE-mediated sensitization
Laboratory: skin testing (IgE-specific response)
