transcutaneous blood gas monitoring

Indications: 1) need to monitor adequacy of arterial oxygenation &/or ventilation* 2) need to quantitate the response to diagnostic & therapeutic interventions as evidenced changes in pO2 &/or pCO2 values* * when arterial blood gas measurement not feasible or impractical Procedure: - measurement of skin-surface pO2 & pCO2 to provide estimates of arterial partial pressure of oxygen & carbon dioxide (paO2 & paCO2) The devices induce hyperperfusion by local heating of the skin pO2 & pCO2 are measured electrochemically.
