transcription factor MafF (v-maf musculoaponeurotic fibrosarcoma oncogene homolog F, U-Maf, MAFF)

Function: 1) interacts with upstream promoter region of oxytocin receptor gene 2) transcriptional enhancer in up-regulation of oxytocin receptor gene at parturition 3) lacks a putative transactivation domain, thus may behave as transcriptional repressor when it dimerizes with itself 4) transcriptional activator via dimerizing with other bHLH proteins, recruits them to specific DNA-binding sites. 5) role in cellular stress response (putative) Structure: - monomer & homodimer or heterodimer Compartment: nucleus Expression: - expressed in the term myometrium & kidney - induced by oxidative stress - belongs to the bZIP family, Maf subfamily - contains 1 bZIP domain
