Function: - inhibits E-box-mediated binding & transactivation of bHLH factors - inhibitory effect is similar to that of ID proteins - inhibits the formation of TCF3 & MYOD1 homo- & heterodimers - lacks DNA binding activity - seems to play a role in the inhibition of myogenesis (putative) - forms inactive heterodimeric complexes with TCF3 Structure: - both the bHLH region & the C-terminal portion are essential for inhibitory function (putative) - contains 1 basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) domain Compartment: nucleus (putative) Expression: expressed in liver, kidney & spleen
