cytochrome p450 5A; thromboxane A [TxA] synthase 1 (TBXAS1, CYP5, CYP5A1)

Function: - synthesis of thromboxane A Cofactor: heme-thiolate Structure: - monomer - belongs to the cytochrome P450 family Compartment: endoplasmic reticulum membrane Alternative splicing: named isoforms=4 Expression: - platelets, lung, kidney, spleen, macrophages & lung fibroblasts Pathology: - defects in TBXAS1 are the cause of thromboxane synthetase deficiency - defects in TBXAS1 are the cause of Ghosal hematodiaphyseal dysplasia Note: - uncertain whether Met-1 is the initiator - an alternative upstream Met is found in primates - not found in other mammals
