Thromboxane A2 receptor; TXA2-R; prostanoid TP receptor (TBXA2R)
Function:
- receptor for thromboxane A2 (TXA2)
- stimulates platelet aggregation
- activityis mediated by a G-protein (Gq) that activates a phosphatidylinositol-Ca+2 second messenger system
- in the kidney, the binding of TXA2 to glomerular TBXA2R receptors causes intense vasoconstriction
Structure: belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family
Compartment: cell membrane
Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2
Pathology:
- defects in TBXA2R are the cause of a dominantly inherited hereditary bleeding disorder
