Metabolite of nitroprusside.
Eliminated almost entirely in the urine.
1/2life 2.7 days, may increase to 9 days with renal insufficiency
Pathology: (Toxicology)
Levels > 60 mg/L are considered toxic.
Manifestations of thiocyanate toxicity:
1) nausea
2) mental status changes
3) abdominal pain
4) seizures
5) metabolic acidosis
Laboratory:
- thiocyanate in blood
- thiocyanate in serum/plasma
- thiocyanate in gastric fluid
- thiocyanate in urine
