transcription factor IIE (TFIIE)
Function:
- initiates transcription in gene with RNA polymerase 2, TFIID (or Sp1?), & TFIIB bound
- recruits TFIIH to the initiation complex & stimulates the RNA polymerase 2 C-terminal domain kinase & DNA-dependent ATPase activities of TFIIH [2]
- both TFIIH & TFIIE are required for promoter clearance by RNA polymerase 2
- required for transcription
Structure:
- tetramer of 2 TFIIE-alpha & 2 TFIIE-beta chains [2]

- encoded by 2 genes
