Etiology: - proctitis Pathology: 1) painful spasm of the anal sphincter with: a) an urge to evacuate the bowel or bladder b) involuntary straining c) passage of little fecal matter or urine 2) an ineffective effort to defecate 3) dysfunction in the rectum near the anal sphincter
