Function: - RNA & ssDNA-binding protein that may play specific roles during transcription initiation at distinct promoters - can enter the preinitiation complex together with the RNA polymerase 2 - belongs to the RNA polymerase 2 transcriptional multiprotein complex, together with the TATA-binding protein (TBP) & other TBP-associated factors (TAF(II)s) - binds SF1 - Arg-206 is dimethylated, probably to asymmetric dimethylarginine - phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR Structure: - belongs to the RRM TET family - contains 1 RanBP2-type Zn⁺² finger - contains 1 RRM domain (RNA recognition motif) Compartment: nucleus (putative) Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2 Expression: - ubiquitous - observed in all fetal & adult tissues Pathology: - chromosomal translocation t(9;17)(q22;q11) involving TAF2N with NR4A3 is found in a form of extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma
