surrogate pregnancy

- pregnancy in which a woman carries & gives birth to a baby for another woman who is not able to have children - eggs from the surrogate carrier or from an egg donor are fertilized with sperm from a sperm donor to create an embryo - the embryo is implanted in the uterus of the surrogate carrier, who carries the fetus until birth [1] Indications: - infertility, including treatments that cause infertility - chemotherapy, radiation therapy [1] Complications: - risk for severe maternal morbidity appears to be elevated
