Etiology: - gynecologic cancer - cervical cancer - endometrial cancer - gynecologic surgery - radiation therapy to treat gynecologic cancer - menopause - hematometra Clinical manifestations: - menstrual abnormalities - amenorrhea - dysmenorrhea - abnormal vaginal bleeding - infertility because sperm cannot pass through the cervix to fertilize the egg - inability to insert a tool to obtain a specimen for Pap smear, cervical cytology or endometrial biopsy - may be asymptomatic, especially after menopause Management: - treatment indicated only for symptoms, hematometra, or pyometra - dilation of the cervix - a cervical stent) in the cervix may be placed for 4 to 6 weeks
