Indications:

a) prognostic information
b) information upon which treatment modalities are determined
Procedure:
- testing to identify local extent of the primory tumor & whether the cancer has spread beyond the site of origin (metastasis)
- most solid tumors are staged according to TNM staging
Radiology:
- imaging depends upon the expected behavior of the cancer type
- specific diagnosis necessary to optimize imaging [1]
Notes:
- avoid testing of low yield [1]
Management:
- cancer staging largely determines management & prognosis [1]
