Function: - catalyzes the phosphorylation of sphingosine to form sphingosine 1-phosphate, a lipid mediator with both intra- & extracellular functions - also acts on D-erythro-dihydrosphingosine, D-erythro-sphingosine & L-threo-dihydrosphingosine ATP + sphinganine ADP + sphinganine 1-phosphate ATP + sphingosine ADP + sphingosine 1-phosphate Cofactor: Mg+2 (putative) Kinetic parameters: - KM=3.4 uM for sphingosine - Optimum pH is 7.5 Structure: contains 1 DAGKc domain Alternative splicing: named isoforms=3
