Etiology: - sudden movements during a slip or fall - biomechanical deviations - postural abnormalitites Pathology: - mechanical restriction prior to an increase in muscle tone or spasm Clinical manifestations: - functional impairment - restricted motion - fixation of structures - trigger points - nerve entrapment - compression or entrapment of blood supply or lymphatic supply - numbness - tingling - most commonly involves the spine Differential diagnosis: - sprain or strain begins with an injury followed by a mechanical restriction
