Function: - insulin-regulated facilitative glucose transporter - binds cytochalasin B (glucose-inhibitable) - seems to be a dual-specific sugar transporter - inhibitable by fructose - interacts with AP2B1 (putative) Structure: - belongs to the major facilitator superfamily, sugar transporter (TC 2.A.1.1) family, glucose transporter subfamily Compartment: - cell membrane - cytoplasmic vesicle membrane - principally intracellular - may move between intracellular vesicles & plasma membrane - dileucine internalization motif is critical for intracellular sequestration (putative) Expression: - highly expressed in testis - lower amounts present in most other tissues - in testis, down-regulated by estrogen Pathology: - down-regulated in testicular carcinoma
