SRP has the shape of a rod, 24 nm long & 5 nm wide with 7SL rRNA forming the backbone of the molecule. SRP binds nascent peptides destined for the ER/GOLGI, halts elongation & delivers intact peptide/80S elongation complex to the endoplasmic reticulum.
