Should We Emergently Revascularize Occluded Coronaries for Cardiogenic Shock (SHOCK) trial

Study characteristics: - 302 patients with acute myocardial infarction, who developed cardiogenic shock within 36 hours of admission Groups: 1) percutaneous coronary intervention, or CABG within 6 hours of randomization 2) medical management*, including thrombolyis (63&) * PCI or CABG allowed after 54 hours (25%) Results 1) benefits of early revascularization (PCI, CABG) persists at 1, 3 & 6 years 2) survival at 1 year 13% better in intervention group 3) 67% improvement in 6 year survival in intervention group
