Semmes-Weinstein monofilament testing

Procedure: - pressure is applied to the plantar surface of the distal hallux & the 1st, 3rd & 5th metatarsals of the foot with a 5.07 monofilament* A 10 gram monofilament is suggested under diabetic foot. Clinical significance: - failure to detect pressure is associated with a high risk of developing foot injury in patients with peripheral neuropathy.
