Indications: - people born in high-prevalence regions of the world - Africa (except Egypt & Morroco) - Asia (except Japan, India, Indonesia Israel, Afghhanistan, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Malaysia, Nepal) - some countries in Eastern Europe (Russia, Romania, Belarus, Moldova, Bulgaria, Albania) - some countries in South America (Ecuador, Peru) - Caribbean (Haiti, Dominican Republic, Jamaica) - other (Turkey, Belize, Cyprus, Italy, New Zealand) - US-born children of parents from high-prevalence regions of the world (present in draft) - immunosuppressed patients - HIV1 - hemodialysis for ESRD [3] - high-risk sexual behavior (men who have sex with men) - injection drug use - incarceration - household contacts of HBV-infected patients - sexual contacts of patients with HBV [3] - blood donors & tissue donors - pregnant women [2] - infants born to HBV-infected mothers [3] - people with hepatitis C - elevated serum ALT - CDC: one time screening for all adults - USPSTF: high risk individuals * screening guidelines apply even if previously given hepatitis B vaccine
