rubella & mumps combined vaccine (Biavax II)
Indications:
1) simultaneous immunization against mumps & rubella
2) measles-mumps-rubella vaccine (MMR) is the preferred vaccine for most children & many adults
Contraindications:
1) hypersensitivity to eggs or neomycin
2) children < 1 year of age
3) pregnancy
4) immunocompromised individuals, except AIDS patients
Caution:
1) women should not become pregnant within 3 months of vaccination
2) avoid immune globulin or plasma for 3 months
Dosage:
Children > 15 months & adults: 0.5 mL SC
Injection: 1000 TCID50 each of:
1) Jeryl Lyn (B level) mumps strain grown in cell cultures of chick embryos
2) live rubella vaccine (Wistar 27/3 strain)
Adverse effects:
- most common (1-10%)
- febrile seizures, fever, soreness, burning, stinging, allergic reactions
Test interactions:
- temporary suppression of TB skin reactivity
