rootletin (ciliary rootlet coiled-coil protein, CROCC. KIAA0445)
Function:
- major structural component of the ciliary rootlet
- contributes to centrosome cohesion before mitosis
- interacts with KLC3, NEK2 & the N-terminus of CEP250
- phosphorylated by NEK2 which may regulate its association with centrosomes
- hosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR
Structure:
- homopolymer
- belongs to the rootletin family
Compartment:
- centrosome, centriole
- In ciliated cells, associated with ciliary rootlets
- in non-ciliated cells, localized between, around & at the proximal ends of the centrioles
- dissociates from the centrioles at the onset of mitosis & reassociates with them at anaphase
Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2
