role of APP in axonal transport
The amyloid precursor protein (APP) may function as a kinesin-1 membrane receptor, mediated by binding of APP to the kinesin light chain subunit of kinesin-1. The APP-kinesin-1 interaction facilites fast anterograde axonal transport of a compartment containing several proteins.
These include:
1) APP beta-secretase
2) presenilin-1
3) GAP-43
4) synapsin-1
5) tyrosine kinase receptor A
NOT included (transported by different mechanisms):
1) synaptotagmin
2) synaptophysin
