RNA polymerase 2 p19 kD subunit (RPB7, RNA polymerase 2 subunit G, POLR2G)
Function:
- component of the RNA polymerase 2 complex
- POLR2G is part of a subcomplex with POLR2D that binds to a pocket formed by POLR2A, POLR2B & POLR2F at the base of the clamp element. The POLR2D-POLR2G subcomplex seems to lock the clamp via POLR2D in the closed conformation thus preventing double stranded DNA to enter the active site cleft
- the POLR2D-POLR2G subcomplex
a) protrudes from the RNA polymerase 2 core complex
b) binds single-stranded DNA & RNA
Structure:
- belongs to the eukaryotic RPB7/RPC8 RNA polymerase subunit family
Compartment: nucleus
