RNA polymerase 1-associated factor PAF49 (anti-sense to ERCC-1 protein, ASE-1, CD3-epsilon-associated protein, CD3E-associated protein, CAST, CD3EAP, ASE1, CAST, PAF49)

Function: 1) initiation of rRNA transcription by RNA polymerase 1 holoenzyme 2) isoform 2 described as a component of T-cell receptor complex* - may undergoes TYR phosphorylation upon TCR stimulation 3) interacts with TAFI48 subunit of SL1 complex, PRAF1 4) isoform 2 interacts with CD3E Compartment: - nucleus - found at the fibrillar centers of nucleolus in interphase - localized to nucleolus organizer regions of the chromosomes during cell division Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2 Genetics: - gene is in an antisense orientation to & overlaps the gene of DNA repair enzyme ERCC1; this gene overlap is conserved in mouse suggesting an important biologic function * evidence favors rRNA transcription rather than T-cell receptor signaling
