risk stratification of syncope in the emergency department (ROSE index)
History:
- age > 65 years
- history of heart failure, ischemic heart disease or ventricular arrhythmias
- lack of warning sign/symptoms
Clinical manifestations:
- bradycardia < 50 beats/min
- chest pain
Laboratory:
- B-type natriuretic peptide in serum > 300 mg/mL
- fecal occult blood positive
- anemia, blood hemoglobin < 9 g/dL
Special laboratory:
- abnormal electrocardiogram
- Q waves (other than lead III)
- SaO2 < 94% on room air
Management:
- inpatient evaluation indicated in patients with significant risk factors
