replication licensing factor (RLF)

RLF consists of 2 essential components, RLF-M & RLF-B. Both are required for RLF to 'license' DNA for replication. RLF cannot cross the nuclear envelope (in yeast) so that it can only 'license' DNA to undergo replication during M phase when the nuclear envelope has broken down during mitosis. RLF is activated abruptly during the metaphase -> anaphase transition & decays during interphase. The situation may be different in mammals as mimichromosome maintenance (Mcm) proteins, components of RLF-M are present in the nucleus throughout the cell cycle.
