reperfusion-eligible acute myocardial infarction
A condition characterized by a clinical presentation compatible with acute myocardial infarction accompanied by ST-segment elevation or new left bundle branch block on ECG.
Management:
- Reperfusion methods include:
1) thrombolysis
2) percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA)
In a small study [1], patients > 75 years of age were found to benefit from PTCA significantly more than thrombolysis A combined endpoint of death, stroke or reinfarction occurred less frequently with PTCA (9%) vs thrombolysis (29%).
