remote ischemic conditioning

Indications: - post ischemic stroke Procedure: - involves repeated occlusion/release cycles on bilateral upper limb arteries [1] - inflatable blood pressure cuff on 1 upper extremity <= 200 mm Hg for 5 minutes then 5 minutes of cuff deflation (5 cycles), started in ambulance, repeated at least once in hospital & for a subset twice a day for 7 days [2] Clinical significance: - remote ischemic conditioning may improve neurologic function post ischemic stroke [1] - of no benefit [2]
