Reinke space

Structure: - loose connective tissue subjacent to the basement membrane of squamous-lined true vocal fold - it is devoid of glandular tissue & lymphatic channels Pathology: - it is prone to react to trauma, either due to smoke, excessive phonation, or other trauma - due to lack of lymphatic channels, edema with increased vascularization, known as Reinke edema may occur may manifest clinically as a polypoid projection into the airway.
