regulatory factor X (RFX)

Function: - binds the X1 box of MHC-II promoters - forms cooperative DNA binding complexes with X2BP & CBF/NF-Y - associates with CIITA/MHC2TA to form an active transcriptional complex Structure: - RFX consists of at least 3 different subunits: RFXAP, RFX5 & RFX-B/RFXANK; with each subunit representing a separate complementation group Pathology: - defects in the RFX-CIITA transcriptional complex are associated with bare lymphocyte syndrome type-2
