rap1A proto-oncogene protein, Krev-1 proto-oncogene protein, small GTP-binding protein 21A (smg p21A) or rap1A6 proto-oncogene protein

Forms high affinity complex with ras-GAP. Function: - induces morphological reversion of a cell line transformed by a Ras oncogene - counteracts the mitogenic function of Ras, at least partly because it can interact with Ras GAPs & RAF in a competitive manner - Rap1A may function by competing with ras proteins for interaction with their effectors (i.e. raf1, etc.) - in its GTP-bound form, interacts with PLCE1 & RADIL - interacts with SGSM1, SGSM2 & SGSM3 - activated by guanine nucleotide-exchange factors EPAC & EPAC2 (cAMP-dependent manner) - activated by MRGEF Structure: belongs to the small GTPase superfamily, Ras family Compartment: cell membrane; lipid-anchor Notes: - the synonym krev1 derives from the ability of rap1A to reverse cellular transformation induced by K-ras & Smgp21
