pylorus

The muscular tissue surrounding & controlling the aboral outlet of the stomach; guards the pyloric orifice. The pylorus is normally in tonic contraction; it is closed except when emitting chyme. The gastric peristalsis passes the chyme through the pyloric canal & pyloric orifice into the small intestine for further mixing, digestion & absorption.
