protein Shroom3 (Shroom-related protein, hShrmL, SHROOM3, KIAA148, SHRML, MSTP013)
Function:
1) controls cell shape changes in the neuroepithelium during neural tube closure
2) induces apical constriction in epithelial cells by promoting apical accumulation of F-actin & myosin-2, & probably by bundling stress fibers
3) induces apicobasal cell elongation by redistributing gamma-tubulin & directing assembly of apicobasal microtubule arrays
4) interacts with F-actin
Structure:
- belongs to the shroom family
- contains 1 ASD1 domain ASD1 domain mediates F-actin binding
- contains 1 ASD2 domain ASD2 domain is required for apical constriction induction
- contains 1 PDZ domain (DHR domain)
Compartment:
- cell junction, adherens junction
- cytoplasm, cytoskeleton
- colocalizes with F-actin in stress fibers & adherens junctions
Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2
