protein DERPC (Decreased expression in renal & prostate cancer protein, DERPC)
Function:
- potential tumor suppressor
- inhibits prostate tumor cell growth, when overexpressed
Compartment: nucleus
Expression:
- ubiquitously expressed
- expressed in kidney, skeletal muscle, testis, heart > prostate
Pathology:
- expression is significantly diminished in renal cancer & prostate cancer
- no differential expression in breast cancer cells, between lobular carcinoma & normal lobules
- found in a common chromosomal region of deletion in breast cancer
Genetics:
- gene encoding this protein shares overlapping exons with CTF8 (UniProt Q8WV66 deleted from database Aug 2010)
